Back in 2019, Andrea Mufatto and Gerardo Michelini started their winery with their son Manuel Michelini. Their goal was to make some of the most unique wines of Argentina that show tension, elegance and balance. With their fine touch and unique growing microclimate, they have already achieved said goals.
They are situated at the foot of the Andes in one of the highest elevations of the Uco Valley, nearly 4,900ft above sea level, where the soil contains some of the richest components of calcium carbonate and granite in all of South America. Gualtallary’s soils are alluvial, from cold harsh winds and never-ending landslides down the mountain which then settles in the soil in a sedimentary manner, leads to the formation of rock deposits of granitic, basaltic and calcium carbonate nature.
This Semillon is from a single plot in the Finca Manoni vineyard inside the Uco Valley, farmed sustainably.
50% whole cluster, aged 7 days on the skins and fermented with indigenous yeast, then further aged in oak foudre for a year and a half.
This wine offers fragrant notes of ripe apricot, pineapple, beeswax, lavender and candied ginger. The palate continues those notes along with lemon balm, tropical fruit, rice candy, sage, and wet clay. Lush and full, smooth and almost oily yet lifted with bright, fresh acidity.
Best served between 45-55°F to show off its charismatic aromatics. A treat with scallops, oily fish, pork chops, squash, roasted peppers and coconut curries.
