At Bodegas Ponce S.L. Juan Antonio Ponce taps a network of old vineyards throughout the southwestern Manchuela region. At just 23 years old, Juan Antonio started a family winery with is father, who contributed some land and the two began farming it together. In their certified organic vineyards, Ponce and his father plant trees and vegetation native to the Mediterranean, encouraging healthy biodiversity for the vines.

35-year-old Garnacha grown from clay soils near the village of Villanueva de la Jara in Castilla La Mancha. Arid and dry, with coastal breezes with long days of sunshine and low humidity are contrasted by cool, damp gusts from the Mediterranean.

Hand harvested, then fermented in 4,500-liter oak vats with whole clusters and indigenous yeast, then matures seven months on the lees.

Tasting Notes
This is a Garnacha in the “Gredos” style, bright, mineral, and flowery, ripe but not overripe. This wine leads with subtle floral notes, juicy raspberry and cherry fruit, and finishes with a serious, austere and stony sensation.

Roasted meats, lamb, grilled vegetables with 5-spice and cumin, a nice steak, and all types of stews and casseroles, and even flavorful fish stews.
