Here is a fun wine from one of our favorite Beaujolais producers, Dominique Piron. This cheeky wine of 95% Gamay from Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages combined with 5% Gamaret. The latter, a little-known varietal created in the 90s by crossing Gamay with Reichensteiner, which had the highest hopes of being authorized for production in Beaujolais yet never happened. Consequently, there are plots of these vines growing in little known villages in the region. Julien Revillon who now heads Dominique Piron’s operation, so happens to own such a plot of vines.
